I am a Catholic priest who opted for exemption from Social Security when i was ordained (an option available to clergy of all denominations). My dilema is this: Congress has opened a two year window during which said exemptions may be revoked---up to now i have been able to put most of the monies I would have paid into Social Security into an IRA----is this still the best choice? If I get into Social Security I will have to pay in as Self employed --ie. 15%---however---I will then be eligble for Medicare, etc.----What to do? What to do? Seeking foolish opinions?
