Some of the companies are already in the BillPay system. Any bill payments with these companies are sent electronically. If the companies isn't in the system, you can set it up manually. The CU in this case will send a paper check instead.
In my credit union's system, I have to tell it what state the vendor is in. State Farm wanted me to mail payments to a PO Box in Georgia, and wasn't in the system. A month after I set it up, the system matched the vendor to State Farm at a PO Box in Arizona and started making the payments electronically. I called my agent and verified that the payment went to the right policy, then quit worrying about it.
What other bills/companies have other posters found that can paid with a CC?
Dish Network. Their web site makes it easy to do a one-time credit card payment. They keep plugging the idea that I should set them up for auto-payment, but I'm not biting. The consequences of it working wrong ONCE are way out of proportion to the puny incentives they give.
Waste Management. I can't us the credit union's bill pay because WM wants both an account number and an invoice number to accept a payment. But I can put it on a rewards card.
Local phone service will accept credit card payment, but they use a 3rd party vendor that will put a convenience fee charge on my card. Local gas & electric utility won't take credit card payments at all.
