<<Website in the internet: www.xroads.com/~funerals>>Last month I had to help a family friend by searching for discount caskets on the Internet. After a lot of searching, I stumbled onto the site above and found it very useful. Much of it was too powerful, I felt, to share with our grieving friend, but it was eye-opening. It's the kind of information you should gather and learn BEFORE you need to put it to use. That said, there *are* a (growing, I presume) number of retailers that offer caskets at discount prices. In New Jersey it seems that by law, funeral homes have to accept delivery of these coffins, if you buy them through discounters rather than at high prices through the funeral home. I suspect the rules vary by state. I've heard that some funeral homes have been known to scratch or dent the caskets upon arrival, to suggest to the family that they bought sub-par stuff. Anyone looking for a casket should definitely check out discounted ones. They're often priced at half the price a funeral home is charging, and they appear to be the exact same product. Some will deliver from far away, some may be local. We found a local supplier, so we could go and choose one in person. But even if there's no local one, I bet you could shop around locally and then buy the same one from a discounter. Here are some sites of interest. I can't vouch for most of them, but I applaud the idea of offering consumers fairer prices. These will just give you an idea of what's out there -- and some of these sites offer some great advice. http://www.efmoody.com/miscellaneous/funeral.htmlUseful industry information: http://vbimail.champlain.edu/famsa/http://www.dragonet.com/funeral/misc.htmhttp://www.caskets-direct.com/http://www.webcaskets.com/http://www.discountcasket.com/headlines.htmlCasket store directory: http://www.casketstores.com/Directory.htmTips for saving money: http://www.vcul.org/famsa/tentips.htmhttp://www.webcom.com/~lewrose/brochures/funerals.htmlAnd finally, for investors interested in this industry, some Fool articles:http://www.fool.com/dtrouble/1999/dtrouble990917.htmhttp://www.fool.com/dtrouble/1999/dtrouble990427.htmSelena
