Someone told me that there is no deadline for filing a tax return if you paid what you owed on time (estimated tax payments). Is this true?No. The filing date is in the law and makes no reference to whether there's a balance due or not. What the infamous someone was probably trying to say is that there's no monetary penalty for failing to file a timely return if there's no balance due.
