Soon, the 'normal' workweek in the USA is going to be 29 hours for half the population. Lower the standard of living for the working so that everyone is 'more equal' (ie, workers and welfare weenies)

I remember when Hawaii came out with their law that said employers had to provide health insurance to anyone who worked over 30 hours a week. Lo and behold, the people most adversely affected were those at the bottom of the economic ladder working in the hospitality industry.

One FT job became two PT jobs. The person who formerly held a low paying 40 hour a week job now had to find a second PT job to make up for what was lost. Usually, this involved taking public transit which increased the commuting expense, but meant more time away from home piecing together FT hours.

The person still didn't have health insurance, and now had the hassle/expense of working two PT jobs. but since it was all done in the name of compassion, it was all good.
