Sorry for the confusion. My intent was to recommend the Fidelity CDs as an alternative to on-line banking. At this time, I think the only way you can buy CDs from Fidelity is over the phone.

This may be one case where buying over the phone makes sense. Because of the "blue sky" laws in various states that govern who is eligible to buy CDs, buying from an institution in another state can be tricky. For me, having access to a broker who can help me sort through the legal stuff is a good thing.
