Sorry for your troubles, but glad they caught it early. As someone else has said - once a bill is sent to collection its usually 30-60-90 days past due with the original biller, and could already be effecting your credit. That doesn't mean you shouldn't still pay it, since not paying it will probably further effect your credit score.Would it be possible for you to put any of these on a credit card, or do you think your credit is still good enough to open a low-interest credit card? Even if you pay interest while paying it down, IMO that's preferrable than having late bills effect your overall credit score if you can't pay $2,500 immediately.
