Romney, Obama, and international opinion

In an op-ed this week, 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney said, “It is hard to name even a single country that has more respect and admiration for America today than when President Obama took office.”

A reader wrote FiveThirtyEight to ask whether Romney’s claim stands up to scrutiny. It doesn’t.

As it turns out, this is a question which is polled all over the world by numerous polling organizations. International opinion of the US since 2008, up. Up in every continent except Africa. Up in Europe, up in Asia, up in South America. More people approve than disapprove, which is a change from that previous administration which shall not be named.

You'd think Mitt would have learned by now. Don't make a claim you can't support with facts, because the only people you persuade are those who already agree with you.
