I know in their first book the fools said get an S and P 500 index fund (Van Guard). Their logic and the subsequent Bogle books that I bought and/or read made sense.

However, now -- with the USA in such DEBT to other countries - I was wondering if it would make more sense to have an international fund? Or, a blend - 25% in the USA and 75% abroad? In the long run how can a US S and P Fund be successful when our national debt is so high??? It seems to be asking the impossible. . . We as a nation can sink farther and farther into debt - yet still have our Index Funds (S/P in particular) be profitable? How?

Help please.

Thanks.
