16 March 2005, 11:10am ET

Bringing the Power and Revenue-Building Capabilities of the Internet to the
Retail Countertop Faster, Easier than Ever Before

LAS VEGAS, 2005 ETA Annual Meeting and Expo, March 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Shorter lines, faster service and more profit-building opportunities are coming to retailers nationwide thanks to global payment technology leader Hypercom Corporation's (NYSE:HYC) fast, easy-use card payment technology. The increasingly in-demand technology -- including the global payment technology leader's new high speed, high performance, multi-application Optimum(TM) T4100 card payment terminal -- is being demonstrated to hundreds of nationally-recognized payment industry experts at the Electronic Transaction Association's 2005 Annual Meeting and Expo.

Speeding Transactions, More Profits for Smaller Retailers

Designed specifically for the nation's smaller retailers, Hypercom's new Internet-enabled Optimum T4100 packs a powerful 32-bit, Intel(R) XScale(R) processor and 24 megabytes of memory to deliver unprecedented, intelligently integrated multi-application performance and the industry's fastest transaction speeds. That's 32 bit v. the 16 bit of the nearest quasi-competitive unit, as well as at least 18 more megabytes of memory. Additionally, and to ensure unparalleled easy-use, the high performance Optimum T4100 can perform 200 MIPS (millions of instructions per second) v. the typical 1.6 MIPS of quasi-competitive devices. Add to that a printer speed of 18 lines per second (lps) with graphics, compared to the 12.5 lps without graphics offered by others, and it's no wonder that those in the know are quickly moving to Hypercom.

Equally noteworthy, Hypercom's Optimum T4100 requires a mere 40 keystrokes and less than 30 seconds to configure. This compared to the nearest quasi-competitive device, which requires up to 276 keystrokes to configure and load.

"We designed the Optimum T4100 to configure and load faster and easier than any other remotely competitive device," said O.B. Rawls IV, President, Hypercom North America.

Hypercom's Optimum T4100 incorporates the global payment technology leader's unique Adaptive Application Environment. This unique, forward-thinking technology enables all of the card payment terminal's applications and functions to interact with each other transparently, simultaneously and in real time, with complete security between each. In other words, a loyalty application, for example, can pass data to the credit application to initiate a payment or other function. When multiple functions can speak safely to one another, this creates unique possibilities of partnership, unified reporting, and results in speeding transactions like never before.

High Speed, Profit-Building Card Payment Technology

"Hypercom's Optimum T4100 and its multi-lane counterpart, the Optimum L4100, are high speed, profit-building card payment terminals designed to meet head on the challenges confronting our customers and retailers nationwide who want to differentiate and win in today's highly competitive environment," said Rawls. "The technology behind Optimum is second-to-none. It allows retailers to bring to the checkout line a powerful combination of credit/debit card authorization and value added services such as prepaid cards, loyalty cards, age and/or ID verification and more -- faster than ever before."

"Optimum represents a quantum leap in payment technology based on a framework of intelligent integration that leverages and combines today's newer technologies, innovations and applications into complete solutions that provide a tangible benefit for customers, merchants and acquirers. Our advanced Adaptive Application Environment increases ease-of-use for merchants, reduced certification time for processors, and gives ISOs enormous flexibility to deliver a truly unique value proposition," said Eric Duprat, Senior Vice President, Global Marketing and Product Development.

"The Optimum T4100 and L4100 deliver the power, performance, high security, profit-building functionality, reliability and easy-use that Independent Sales Organizations, retailers and financial institutions are demanding," said Duprat. "From incredibly easy and intuitive operations to multiple profit-building applications and the industry's fastest transaction speeds, these card payment terminals deliver the proverbial goods for our customers and theirs; faster, smarter and easier than ever before."

If all of this wasn't enough, both of the easy-use, highly advanced, intelligently integrated, multi-application, Internet-enabled card payment terminals are also offered with contactless technology.

"Hypercom is clearly delivering the intelligent choice in payments with card payment technology that far exceeds simple credit and debit, and opens the doors for what could quickly translate into substantial additional opportunities and profits for retailers," said payment industry analyst Paul Martaus, President, Martaus & Associates.

"Hypercom is clearly an intelligent choice for retailers who want to get ahead in today's competitive business environment. The market reports that Hypercom delivers continuous enhanced value to its customers with innovative technology, high quality, reliable solutions, unmatched services and faster time to market. The market also states that Hypercom is highly instrumental in driving new business and business lines for its customers," said payment industry analyst Pallab Roy, Frost & Sullivan.

"When you look at the profit building features and easy-use functionality of Hypercom's technology compared to all others, there is no question that Hypercom is the clear choice, the intelligent choice. Their solutions are second-to-none," said payment industry veteran Dave Lott, Director at Collective Dynamics.
