Wow! It's great that your parents got you started, and even better that you've taken control! You won't need to work 40+ years: choose perhaps, but not need.

Like ElSupremo, I prefer to keep my money working at the max by making my tax deferred deposits early in January. Also, that has usually proven to be a good time to invest because the first quarter is often a good one. But then, that's market timing, and I don't put much stock in it.
