I thought I would share some information I've been reading through today regarding depression (unipolar) and manic depression (bipolar disorder). In my opinion, these are really terrific sites and links for general research and reading.
Particular interest to bipolars. Description: “The information presented on this site is intended to provide information and support to the families, friends and loved ones of those who suffer from bipolar disorder (manic-depression). These resources have helped many of us inform ourselves, cope with behaviors that sometimes arise from the illness, better understand our own reactions, and determine how we may best support our loved ones in their efforts to understand and live with this often terrible disease.”
Description: “This page is for anyone who needs information on depression or bipolar disorder (manic depression), including people with these illnesses and their loved ones. Today there is much information and treatment available for depression, bipolar disorder, and other mental illnesses, yet many people do not seek treatment due to the stigma surrounding the illness or a lack of knowledge of treatment.”
From the previous site referenced, this is the index to “Support Groups, Crisis Centers, and other organizations”
This is the homepage of the New York City “Mood Disorder Support Group.” Has online newsletters, articles, lectures, news, and lots of other great information.
Description: “MDSG is a non profit, self-help organization serving both individuals with depression and manic-depression (bipolar disorder), as well as their families and friends. We help people to accept and manage their illness and improve the quality of their life. Everyone involved with MDSG is a volunteer, the group has no salaried employees. We are a chapter of The National Depressive and Manic-Depressive Association.”
“Pendulum Resources; Bipolar Disorders Portal.” This is possibly one of the best known and oldest Internet sites on bipolar disorders.
