surely these base levels are not sustainable.Whether they are or not is like arguing about the whether or not we should paint the walls while the roof is on fire.The total military budget is about 17% of the federal budget. All those bases, including the troops on them, is likely less than half that number. Most troops are CONUS or on US ships.Social Security and Medic(are/aid) is more than double that number at about 45%.Total military spending is about $900 billion.The annual deficit is $1.2 trillion.You could eliminate the entire military and we would still have a deficit.Revenue has to go up, and everyone's favorite third-rail (regardless of what that may be) needs to feel the sharp edge of a knife.
