Surge Protector - Make sure it has not only surge protection, but also a line conditioner. A line conditioner will not only protect against surges, but also clean up line noise through the coaxial feed. MichaelR has addressed this in his previous posts.

HDMI Cables - We can and have gone round and round on this issue as to Monster Cable vs other brands. There are many, many brands on the market, from cheap to very expensive. I always advise people to buy the mid-range cables. Don't buy the expensive ones unless you have a really, really high end system (yes, there is a difference). Don't buy the cheapest ones either, because things like soldering, connectors, and insulation do make a difference in the construction of the wire. According to the guys at (my favorite website and podcast for this industry), the website will offer the best deal on cables and accessories.
