Surge Protector - Make sure it has not only surge protection, but also a line conditioner. A line conditioner will not only protect against surges, but also clean up line noise through the coaxial feed. MichaelR has addressed this in his previous posts.

HDMI Cables - We can and have gone round and round on this issue as to Monster Cable vs other brands. There are many, many brands on the market, from cheap to very expensive. I always advise people to buy the mid-range cables. Don't buy the expensive ones unless you have a really, really high end system (yes, there is a difference). Don't buy the cheapest ones either, because things like soldering, connectors, and insulation do make a difference in the construction of the wire. According to the guys at http://www.htguys.com (my favorite website and podcast for this industry), the website www.monoprice.com will offer the best deal on cables and accessories.
