Switchgrass (I think that is the proper spelling) is looking like it can do everything. A feedstock for bottles. Forage for cattle. Feedstock for liquid fuel to replace oil. It's a native plant to Canada, the US and Mexico that grows on marginal land! But, as this board knows, industry loves to genetically engineer its way to a better yield. That is happening with switchgrass too. Let's hope that the early innovators like Pepsi have enough social responsibility to demand a non-GM product before they find out that their "special seed" has not so special side effects.W.D.
