And the flip side is that if the rich folks really, truly weren't able to afford that private jet without help from the grateful taxpayer, then they'd have to fly commercial.

I recall a conversation back when I was working at Apple, when it was on the skids and Microsoft was in its glory days. Someone mentioned that when Bill Gates flew on Microsoft business, he flew economy class. Someone else said, "Gee, our guys fly first class and company jet every chance they get. If they flew economy, that would be, you know, leadership!" Of course, it never happened.
