Take it to "Everything Sci-Fi"

You mock a reference to 2001: A Space Odyssey and yet you pretend to call yourself a Simpsons fan? That movie shows up repeatedly in the show.

When Homer goes into space and floats around eating potato chips, is the accompanying music some recent rock song? Of course not. It is "The Blue Danube Waltz."

When the naked Homer is floating in space looking down at Earth, that's just some silly idea the writers came up with, right? Of course not. Homer is merely portrayed as the star-child that Dave Bowman became.

Surely the Itchy and Scratchy scene from that episode was just another routine bit of violence, right? Of course not. The scene was straight out of HAL9000's repertoire.

The Pierce Brosnan house computer? Spoof of 2001.

The computer that helps automate the semi truck owned by the driver that dies in the eating contest with Homer? Spoof of 2001.

Bart throwing a pen into the air that becomes a satellite? Spoof of 2001.

In one episode, Monty Burns himself is sitting upon regal furniture in a room with a floor lit from below--just as in 2001.

Frink's love tester sings "Daisy, daisy...." as it gets shut down, just as HAL did.

Hell, even Bob Dole and Bill Clinton meet their fate in 2001 fashion, cast adrift into space just as poor Frank Poole was.

In episodes all throughout the run of the series, music from 2001 is used. Not just the Blue Danube--Also Sprach Zarathustra is used, as is Atmospheres.

So, 'Take it to "Everything Sci-Fi"', indeed. You claim to be a Comic Book Guy fan, and yet fail to acknowledge the greatness that 2001 has supplied to The Simpsons all throughout the series. CBG is ashamed to be seen with you--and this is a guy who has f***ed both Agnes Skinner and Edna Krabapple.

'Take it to "Everything Sci-Fi"' .... Worst. Post. Ever.
