Target Retirement funds, or life-cycle funds I think are perfect for the average investor, and I mayself have money in one. They are also especially good when you do not have enough money to buy multiple indices or funds. If you like to be more involved, I would consider creating your own allocation, but otherwise, I see very little downside to you choosing to invest in a Vanguard Target Retirement 2050 (VFIFX) or something similar.-Will
