8000 plus 4000 plus 4000 and 3000 and dropping....not even 70K cars sold a year, right?
.... We got five times the population and sell , what, 20 or 30 or 40 or 50 times the number of cars?

No. That doesn't even begin to pass the reasonable-believable test.

Let’s refer to the actual article again.

The caption under the first picture reads:
“A total of 2.54 million cars were registered in 2017. So which were the ten best-selling models?”

The caption above the list reads:
“Britain's best-selling cars of 2018” (and it’s very early in the year, even over there, in a different time zone and all.)

2.54 million cars sold in the UK. That's about equal to the number of pickup trucks sold in the U.S., which you quoted. So whatever the totals come to be, yes we have more vehicles, with 5X the population, of course, but the difference is nowhere near the multiples you imagine.
