Thank you all for replies! I learn from your answers that paying long-term cap gains is ALWAYS less than paying an income rate, whether one falls in the 15% or 28% tax bracket. I was trying to figure out whether it made much difference to take retirement withdrawals from income-earning investments or from cashing in cap gains type investments, given that one can structure either way.
