Thank you for your answer. Unfortunately the TAX FAQs does not answer the following question:
If I buy 100 shares of A in 1990, and 100 shares of A in 1998; then I sell 200 shares of A in 1999 and within 30 days, I buy 100 shares of A, to which of the two purchases will the wash sale rule apply, to the 1990 purchase or to the 1998 purchase?
