Thanks Elias ......

Although I am still in a bit of shock I have given the issue a day's worth of thought. I think I understand the plight of The Fool during the recent economic downturn, the dwindling advertising revenues etc. This is one of those circumstances where management sees a problem and is attempting to place the company strategically to better prosper in the out-years. Yes I can understand the dilemma. What I have no clue about is the degree of difficulty....the balance sheet....the projected revenue stream, the debt, etc. Unless I know those facts I'm not going to sit here and launch missiles at management. I believe the Gardner's are fine men of intelligence and integrity. But Elias has a point.

To alter the very CORE of the business is to me a strategic blunder which will destroy the company over time. Oh yes it may survive for a period but in my estimation your fee based revenues will slowly whither away. OK let's say that I fork over the $30.....chump change really but that's missing the point. It's a barrier plain and simple. A hassle, a bureaucratic block, an annoyance.....all fees change the dynamic. I pay my $30 and enter into a realm of a truncated posting block of what will probably be like-minded individuals.... I would suspect that this board will become a board of money managers. I've noticed that many many of the subject lines....the new ideas of conversation....the topics of some relevance come from the lesser, unappreciated, serf filled, lower class, groveling, not worthy of emulation, lower tax bracket, pathetic, and ultimately SCREWED "other half." That half would be pissed away to the ant hills of irrelevancy. Yes....I would get bored reading only posts of financial statement breakdown.....I would be curious - for awhile - but it would get old and stale....the community that I love would be gone. In time I would probably be gone as well.... I can see it coming before the event which is why I am so reluctant to fork over the $30 (which compounded over 20 years at 13% ain't $30) for a cause which I see as doomed. Folks at the Fool.....I urge you .....beg you.... to find another way. You're destroying yourselves.
