Thanks for the feedback; a bit of background--
My 401K is managed by Transamerica retirement services... unless i "self-direct", my choices are from a list of one hundred or so mutual funds... most are "in house" Transamerica funds but quite a few other better known fund families are available... given that this is just my second year contributing and my novice status as an investor, i allocated based on some generic guidelines...
To wit--40% large cap funds; 25% small cap funds; 25% international funds and 10% specialty (real estate, biotech) funds (Note: no dedicated bond funds)
Some examples, by name:
•American Funds Growth Fund of America (AGTHX) •American Funds Washington Mutual Investors (AWSHX) •Fidelity Advisor Small Cap Fund (FSCIX) •Strong Advisor Small Cap Value (SSMTZ) •American Funds Balanced Fund (ABALX) •American Funds New Perspectives (ANWPX)
Is it not appropriate to be partitioning by "style" in tax-priviledged accounts? Should I be "indexing" in my 401K as well?
Last year was the first year i contributed to an IRA... I make more than allowed for a Roth IRA so I put $3K (each for myself and my wife)into the Oakmark family of funds (Oakmard Fund for both; Equity & Income/International for her; Small Cap/Global for me)... my plan was to continue along these lines of contribution each year...
This whole investment mess has me confused... the more i learn, the less i know...
