Thanks for the info Phil.

Since I can really only apply my loss to capital gains, it looks like I will have a loss to carry over for quite a long time, as I probably won't be realizing very large gains (I try to hold stocks for as long as I can, rather than trade in and out). I am thinking of waiting for a while in hopes that my stock will recover more so I don't have to take such a large loss. I just don't know if I'll use the loss soon enough.
