Thanks, Peter, for very informative information as regards dividends.
Just to clarify, if I have this correct, the ex-dividend date, then would fall on the day after the dividend is paid out? And this date, on which it is paid out, typically falls, when, right at the very end of the economic q.? (I am asking curious vis-a-vis nonretirement accts.)

My tax guide book says they pay out typically on a March, June, Sept., Dec. schedule. I am assuming that means roughly the div. pays on March 31? So one would benefit from buying on a Jan., Apr., Jul, Oct. type schedule? And, in theory, one might inadvertantly affect a wash sale if one sells a portion of a fund just before ex-div. date? But, you can avoid that, though, as long as you sell on a date whereby the price is higher than your original purchase price, correct?
