Thanks to all METARites that have supported nominating me for the Feste award. It would be quite the honor: win, lose or draw. Maybe the force will be with me this year! From a Macro Economic standpoint, I think we live in incredibly interesting and challenging times. I think investing for “reasonable” returns has gotten a lot more difficult over the years. Hopefully some of my 2012 posts added insights or knowledge that was helpful to you.

One thing I learned is that you never know what will strike a chord with METARites. When you sit in a cave all day, isolated from other humans, NOT listening to or watching CNBC/MSNBC/FOX, your mind can go to unusual places. (Outside of METAR, it has been suggested that my mind started in unusual places and has never found a path back to “normalcy.”) Most of the time, I attempted to think through the topic and understand why I thought it was significant to METARites. Some of the posts were formulated in a matter of hours before I wrote them up. Other posts took a little longer. Like weeks. Sometimes months. And yes, on occasion, I did post things that were akin to news releases as opposed to valuable insights. In particular, I would do this if I thought the average METARite might not see it otherwise. There is so much information out there, it is difficult for any of us to 100% stay on top of it.

One major theme for 2012 was that I tried to have more substantive posts, both word count and ideas, as opposed to brief posts. As a result, if I had to hazard a guess about the number of METAR posts, it would be about 100. This is probably on the low end for METAR posters. My guess is that about 30 to 40 of these become the Fool “Post of the Day.” Once again, I never knew in advance which ones the Fool’s would pick as POtD. Many of the ~ 100 posts are like children. It is hard to pick your favorite child. Kind of a “Sophie’s Choice.” I will review the posts and see if I can pick a few favorites that seemed to resonate. I am going to attempt this from memory before I review the site. You could argue if the post was significant, it should have an impression that lasts at least into 2013. After this, I will cheat and go read a few of the 100 to see what has escaped from memory. . . Then I will post “Yoda’s 2012 Favorites.”
