I know some will consider it a mistake, but my Mom sold the bonds and will be using the proceeds to buy laddered CD's (half now and half in 3-6 months). If long bonds increase in value or stay about the same, then it was a calculated opportunity cost. If long bonds decline in value down the road, the possibility of getting back into the bonds via a low cost bond fund remains a possibility.
