Thanks! Yes, we'll contribute after retirement and savings. Both we and my parents (who would contribute) live in NC. I did not realize that grandparents could have their own plans. I'll definitely look into it. You missed out on the state tax break. Starting in 2014, you no longer get a state tax deduction for contributions to the NC 529 plan.PSU
