That dog was really a pain. It ran loose, barked when tied up, went into other people's property, scared the newspaper boy, stole newspapers, tipped over garbage cans, you name it. I wouldn't have been surprised if the SPCA used it as a poster child for Why You Should Train Your Dog.
Sounds like the OESD my sister had back in the late 70s/early 80s. Oliver was a real handful. He was lovable, but despite multiple obedience classes, he was pretty much untrained. He did learn how to slide open the windows in my sister's condo, and so would let himself out for a walk if she wasn't home early enough. Fortunately, the neighbors knew him and wold bring him home if they found him. Did I mention he also liked to swim in the communal pool?
At the end of his second round of training, he broke loose from my sister and jumped up with his front feet on the table and slurped the guy who was judging them. Needless to say, he failed. Mom was horrified the one time she said something nice about him and he promptly jumped onto her lap. At 105 lbs, he really took up much more space than your average lap dog.
