That shows atheists are a tiny fraction. "Unaffiliated" is not synonymous with "atheist" (or "agnostic", for that matter, which is a larger -but still small- sliver). It would include deists, new age crystal people, etc.I contend that a great many of the so-called religious really do not believe either. So here we have numerous people who claim belief in an eternal life that lasts for ever and ever and ever, and the opposite eternal hell of torment, and a god with his own published rule book who makes the determination as to which place you go. And yet a great many of these same people cheat on their spouse, defraud the vulnerable, sodomize children, cheat on their taxes, and in general break the rules that their god has laid down. Am I to conclude that these person really have belief in their religion? The bible, while being folklore, none-the-less has an occasional nugget of wisdom; "You shall know them by their fruits". The percentage of people who really walk the talk and truly believe is far smaller than the polls would have us believe.
