That wasn't a conversation, unfortunately, but an immediate revulsion to even having a discussion

I was not that people do not want that conversation; folks talk about it quite often.

It was that a certain political party saw gain in repudiating one of their own ideas for political purposes and to stop meaningful discussion of a out of control medical system that profits a small and wealthy group who have bought many politicians in that certain party.

It was political fear mongering pure and simple.
It fed certain religious bias and ignorance for the simple political reason of stopping the opposition party from any success.

Allowing the opposition party to succeed is dangerous....blocking them and making them seem to be responsible for dysfunction and failure is the only goal quite often.

We now have one political party which almost 100% wants to rule and the other which would still like to govern.

It serves a cynical political class and a voracious medical industry to keep the general public away from discussing quality of life and end of life issues....people, at least most of them, have no real issue with talking about these things; just try to stop an oldster from talking about their aches and pains and "When I am about to die, for goodness sake do not.....".
