That's quite an indictment on the 2013 QB class when the team with the top pick would rather trade for an arguably unproven veteran.

Maybe not. Usually the best college QBs wind up on the worst teams, not always, but usually. Then said QB gets beaten to a pulp (David Carr) behind a subpar line with a few other offensive weapons to help him.

The Chiefs need so much that while they are working on the infrastructure Smith is the designated hittee. So by the time they acquire sufficient assets, the future drafted QB can have an easier learning curve.

I see Smith as cannon fodder.
