That's right, the "cause" is the health issue at the end, not the orgy of spending on consumer expendables (TV's, SUV's, too large houses, other entertainment, etc.) rather than saving for the decades before the health issue. - mark

People that retire early, and have a significant portion of their money in stocks depend on those stocks gaining in value, which only happens if there are consumers buying goods and services. People who shop and spend, spend, spend are what drive our economy. If the economy had to survive on what I spend it would stay in a constant depression. If everyone were like me our economy would be like Bulgaria or Romania or Albania. - Art
