The amount of the mortgage is currently $214,000. My house is probably worth about $550,000. But the market is shifting so maybe a little less.

I have actually thought of selling this house moving into a less expensive house meaning aroung 475,000 (if you can find one at that price that isn't an absolute dump very hard to do here on long island) but if you could maybe that is a way to gain some cash to THROW at those Credit Cards.

Why stay on Long Island if you move? What about New Jersey? It's a bit of a commute to teh city, but there are people here that do it. You could get a nice house in my town for under $400,000. If you don't have any family there, why do you have to stay on Long Island?
