The answer depends on the rules of your wife's 401k plan, as Fuskie implies. Some plans do allow inservice rollovers to an IRA, but most do not.

So if your adminstrator does not know, it may not be allowed. But you could try getting a copy of the plan rules and reading them carefully or asking Fidelity. Fidelity will almost certainly know the ins and outs of the plan and may be excited about letting you roll it over to an IRA at Fidelity if the rules allow.
