In 2007, USA witnessed the launch of a project known as B Corporation (B Corp.). B Corp. is a certification given to any organization (mainly for profit organizations) whose purpose is the promotion of the well-being of all stakeholders, and not just the shareholders.

Being certified as a B Corp., means that an organization follows the stakeholder well-being approach, in letter and spirit. The organization incorporates social and environmental sustainability, employee involvement etc. into the legal framework of the company. By the beginning of August 2009, 190 companies were certified as a B Corp.

We, as citizens, can support companies that are socially and environmentally responsible in a number of ways, one of the ways being purchasing goods/ services from such companies, whenever we are engaging in a purchasing process.
