The best advice I can give? Stay on "the property".

Here's one more vote! We spent 10 days at the Polynesian. It was awesome!

Among the perks of being a resort guest: FREE transportation to all the parks/attractions

We loved being on the monorail. Our kids got a big thrill from riding in the front cab with the driver.

Another perk is having anything you've purchased delivered to your room so you don't have to carry it around the parks all day.

You can also use your room key to charge meals and purchases to your room and reduce the amount of cash you need to carry around the parks. We liked the convienence of not needing to worry about losing cash or traveler's checks, but like any other form of credit you need to use it wisely. We had an amount budgeted for meals and gifts, charged them to our room, paid with our AMEX when we checked out, collected the frequent flier miles, and wrote a check for the whole amount as soon as we came home. The key can also serve as your ticket depending on the type you buy.

Another tip I remember from our trip was that all the DW restaurants (including those in the hotels) seemed to have the "endless beverage" policy

You can buy a refillable mug at your hotel, and refill it for free for the rest of the visit. The key is you can only use it at your hotel. We bought a few and the kids would go get us all sodas as soon as we came back to the hotel for the evening.

Always ;-)
