The bond etf's should behave in price more or less in synch with bond prices. If interst rates rise (higher yields on the bonds), the price of the bonds, (and thus the ETF) will fall.

That said, I would expect TLT should return approx in line with a long term treasury fund, especially if held over enough time to capture one ore more complete cycles....
