The cool part about that bit was that most of it was cost sharing with provinces and municipalities for "shovel ready" projects that doubled the effect. Since virtually all of our municipalities have shovel ready projects ready to go if the cash is "found" and an opportunity to have the feds pay half the cost doesn't come every week they hit the bricks a running. The projects were all time limited but a few that didn't meet the deadline got extended.

A short trip to the mall the day after it was approved had me driving through four different street or overpass projects with barriers, heavy equipment and flag guys everywhere. }};-()

My beef with our government at the time (still?) is that they cut taxes of all sorts including corporate, income, sales taxes and others just in time to get whacked by the mess. I have no problem with tax cuts after the debt is reduced or eliminated but they were entirely too quick to try to make their mark after years of great stewardship by the opposition.
