First, it's up to the business to determine what it can afford.

Second, it seems pretty petty to be whining about workers earning about 20% of what Republicans call "middle class" (up to $250K/YR per individual and $500K/YR per family).

Third, it seems at best inconsistent to somehow accept the Republican attitude for executive pay ("if you can get it, take it") and then assert that it's somehow outrageous for workers earning a comparatively small fraction of that pay to do the same. In fact, it reeks of - ahem - "class warfare."
