The earlier you save, the longer compounding has to work it's "magic". And if you can teach your children to be savers, that might be one of the best things you will ever do for them.

Totally agree. However, if you plug in the same numbers and use a more "realistic" average SP 500 return of 8%, that final number is just under $800,000. The headline of "$1/day doesn't quite make you a millionaire" lacks the same pizzazz.
