Providing birth control to women at no cost substantially reduced unplanned pregnancies and cut abortion rates by 62 percent to 78 percent over the national rate, a new study shows. The research, by investigators at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, appears online Oct. 4 in Obstetrics & Gynecology.

By contrast, "abstinence only" programs actually resulted in *increased* pregnancies and abortion rates, according to this study:
However, this decline (in teen pregnancy rates) started to stall out in the early 2000s, at the same time that sex education programs aimed exclusively at promoting abstinence—and prohibited by law from discussing the benefits of contraception—became increasingly widespread and teens’ use of contraceptives declined.

All those liberals who wanted more abortions should be deeply troubled by this news ;-)
