The Federal Gov. seems to go by decade.

80's: blew the bank account, ran up the credit cards
90's: imposed some discipline, got a debt reduction plan in place
00's: total relapse and binging

Since I don't think people really understand billions and trillions very well, allow me an analogy. The current fiscal mess, gimmicks aside, is like a family earning $40,000 and spending $60,000. The president's big promise (about which he show no signs of being serioius) is to "cut the deficit in half in 5 years". Big deal. We'd still be racking up $10,000 of debt per year.

This year will be a test of Bush's one true talent, avoiding resposibility.
