The I-series Savings Bonds were mentioned in several recent threads. If you are buying them then there is a trick, purchase then on the internet using a credit card that gives you a 'perk' based on your purchases.

This perk will be disappearing soon...nobody knows the exact date, but the Treasury has stated that they will stop accepting credit-cards for savings bond purchases.

Also, this can be used regardless of the type of savings bond you are purchasing (I or EE)...and if you are planning on holding the bonds for the long-term (i.e. 10+ years), I would definitely advise purchasing EE-bonds rather than I-bonds.
