Poverty in America —
It's not what you think.
The Line documents the stories of people across the country living at or below the poverty line. They have goals. They have children. They work hard. They are people like you and me. Across America, millions are struggling every day to make it above The Line.

Thank you for sharing, Adrian.

Great link. I will check out this movie. This issue is something I'm very passionate about. There is a real misunderstanding about homelessness in this country. I hope that is changing.
Information is a powerful step in the right direction. I haven't watched the film yet so I can't endorse it, but I applaud the producers for calling attention to a growing issue.
Ray

PS its a nice change from the rape thread.

Yes, we can but try.

PS its a nice change from the rape thread.

But not very interesting, apparently.

I agree! We must. We must change our world.

I appreciate you. You and I have had similar journeys, IMO, based on what I have read. I am a believer and you seem more skeptical. But the conversations we have are sharpening and insightful and I look forward to them.
It is absolutely a welcome change from believers who judge and atheists/agnostics who tell us what we must believe.

Can I ask what bothered you about it?
Do you have a suggestion of a better example to use of a near-universally condemned action that wouldn't be offensive? I'm open to suggestion.

Rape is a terrible crime. We had it thrown about like a ball, and everyone was trying to score points in the big argument. Then there was a serious point to be made about the bible condoning rape(!).

I really wouldn't want to spend time with someone who isn't bothered by a lot of rape talk. Its a close personal issue as I am close to people who've been a victim of this horrible crime. I'm not alone, either. I'm sure the boards are full of people who have had to survive it. It isn't a fun thing to discuss. You all have the right to take any thread or argument in any direction you want, but I respectfully chose to bow out and not participate.

That thread (even beyond all the rape discussion), when I hit the ignore button, had digressed into a level of rudeness that until recently we've been able to largely avoid on this board. I just had to hide the thread and a few new posters (on both sides of the faith issue) and the board came back to civility very quickly.
Fewer posts, but more compelling discussion.

I'll try to do better in the future. My presumptive questions have never been accepted well on the boards, don't know why I think "it will be different this time"

I'm not sure i understand. I don't think you are the problem. I just didn't want to participate or read it.
I'm not scared of difficult questions nor is it that I can't face the truth I just don't respond well to the rudeness and found the entire line of debate very unappetizing, so I bowed out.
No big deal to me. Its the same reason I don't like horror movies involving young kids. Different strokes for different folks. If I don't like the show, I just turn off the TV.
Make sense?

FWIW, I'm not bothered by "rape talk", or really any talk.

I am bothered by rape.

And not just because I'm raising a daughter.

That's good. I must dig out that old 7 Habits tape. Time for a refresher...
