The metaphor that springs to mind is "the Goose that Laid the Golden Egg." Liberals are not satisfied with rising standards of living for everyone, personal freedoms, and the ability to improve your life through your own hard work.

They want all of the golden eggs (Obamaphones, Obamacare, etc.) NOW and they don't care about how it harms the country or other people. They are willing to kill the goose in order to loot those goodies now.
