The only problem is that if the NSA attempted to put a backdoor in, the very nature of open source allows anybody in the world with the inclination to read the submitted code to find it. Same goes for the SE-Linux extensions they contributed (and continue to develop). A similar accusation was made about the FBI and OpenBSD a little under three years ago... after just about the entire team shredded apart the code base looking for one, no such back door was found.
