The opening line or whatever it was in the op-ed wasn't his main point.

Seems like you haven't even read the op-ed.

This is Romney's main point:

In virtually every foreign-affairs crisis we have faced these past five years, there was a point when America had good choices and good options. There was a juncture when America had the potential to influence events. But we failed to act at the propitious point; that moment having passed, we were left without acceptable options

That's Monday-morning quarterbacking, in my opinion, and not entirely true. It's nit true at all with regard to Ukraine. But that's not what this thread is about. This thread is about this Romney whopper:

It is hard to name even a single country that has more respect and admiration for America today than when President Obama took office, and now Russia is in Ukraine. Part of their failure, I submit, is due to their failure to act when action was possible, and needed.

It's actually quite easy to name a whole bunch of countries that have more respect and admiration for America than when Obama took office. As has been shown, nearly every country has a higher regard for the United States and Obama now than when Obama took office (which is just a polite way of saying "when Bush was president.") Those that don't? Pakistan, for one, mainly because of Obama's aggressive use of drones against Al Qaeda. Egypt is another, where people feel the U.S. betrayed them by abetting a military coup against a democratically-elected (Islamist) government. And Syria, of course. Maybe Russia now, too.
