The reason for ID at the polling place is to verify identity and valid registration. Otherwise, anyone can show up to vote and the poll workers have no means of verification, and even a registered voter could vote multiple times at multiple places.

WRONG!!! This is typical ignorance of the voting process. Poll workers are provided with a list of all registered voters entitled to vote at their precinct. The list includes indication of those who voted an early ballot. When a voter arrives at the polling place to vote, they must state their name AND current address. The poll worker looks up that name and if the address provided matches the voter registration address given, then they may be provided with a ballot. The poll worker then indicates in the voter registration book that this person has voted. No other person is allowed to provide the same name and address and still vote. A registered voter who shows up at the wrong precinct cannot vote. Instead they are provided direction to their proper polling place. A voter who provides a proper name and an address not listed in the registration book is also not allowed to vote but is given instructions on how to change their voter registration address for the next election.

The more you understand how voter registration and voting actually happen, the more you will see that voter IDs will not address any existing problem but could lead to greater voter fraud since ID cards are easily pilfered.

Nothing that you said negates the initial point of how one person can vote under another person's ID.
