The reason I asked was because my husband has doubts about efile, and I snail mail, and even at this late date, not sure which we will do. When there is just one person involved, it all works out, but put two heads together and the doubts creep in.

No problem. I have no problem with people who chose to paper file, feel free to make the choice you wish. But just chose it not because its safer, but because you're more comfortable with the risks associated with it, which are still very much real.

Overall, I have to chose efiling myself, because its less expensive (I've never used software that has any efiling fees), quicker, more convenient, less effort, and saves the government money on their end too.
